Notes: Phil's first foray into solo recording shows that he can stand alone from the Blasters and still carry the tunes. A collection of gospel, jazz and blues tunes from an old satchel on the back stoop and enough friends around to fill in the sound. Sun Ra swings his group through the changes and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band takes a different route, but Phil manages to keep up with both. The folk art elements of the cover captures the mood of the music and fits in with the handmade images of the brothers Alvin that we've come to hold in our minds.
