Notes: Debut
effort from Paul Butterfield and his stellar band.
Maybe not the tighest combo ever put together, but the hometown
Chicago blues that Paul brings to the table fills the grooves with
a blues energy that'll have you up and moving. Two of the players, Sam
Lay and Jerome Arnold, were part of Howlin'
Wolf's rhythm section and turn in a strong performance
here. The rising interest in blues at the time fueled many a blues
combo, but there was something special here. Both Paul and Michael
Bloomfield were living tje life on the south side and no one could
accuse them of being anything less than authentic. It's no surprise
that three of the members went on to claim their place in the musical
world. According to the back cover, "We
suggest that you play this record at the highest possible volume
in order to fully appreciate the sound of the Paul Butterfield
Blues Band".
We'd suggest you take their suggestion.
