Artist:  Captain Beefheart

Title:  Bluejeans & Moonbeams

Date:  1974

Label:  Virgin Records   OVED 19

Cover Painting and Concept:  Victor Haydon

Photography:  Susan Ayers

Notes:  Usually discarded as one of his weaker efforts this record might also be called one of the Captain's more accessible outings. Not the usual bill of fare for those who dine with the Captain often, but still there are a few nice pieces here and there. As well as some bad. I'm not sure if this was a record company guided effort to get some chart action or just a project to fill in the gaps until the next ship full of inspiration set sail. This is a 180 gram British pressing and sounds absolutely warm and wonderful. There is something not quite right with the cover and its leaping beastie, a bit unsettling maybe for some quiet reason. Not a record for the true Beefheart disciple, but perhaps one to bring a new believer gently into the fold .
