Notes: It
was 1980 and arena bands were still producing albums with one long
piece per side, six minute guitar solos were common and grand,
glorious arrangements made up of layer upon layer of sound collage
were the norm. And here comes Elvis with twenty tracks on the single
long player. Get in, get out and nobody gets hurt. With the clever
ears of Mr. Lowe at the helm this record rocks. Make your point,
don't dwell on anything for too long, move on now. With only
one song breaking the three minute mark and a few under two minutes
you've got to produce a lot of musical hooks to produce a work
such as this. There are a couple of songs here that went into the "Best
of Elvis" folder right from the start. "New Amsterdam" and "I
Can't Stand Up for Falling Down" are just the first two that
spring into my addled mind. Love him or hate him, at least he never
gets boring. A sprightly, energetic set. The cover has its new
wave graphics and colors on display and it even comes with a snappy
inner sleeve.
