Artist:  Stanley Clarke

Title:  Rocks, Pebbles and Sand

Date:  1980

Label Epic Records

Design: Nancy Donald

Illustration:  Robert Giusti

Photography: Henry Diltz

Notes: Stanley puts a little funk into his jazz and some rock into his sound on this outing to kick off the eighties. There is still the sound of Stanley's impressive chops and that's enough to carry the vocals and strings scattered around the recording. Chick Corea makes an appearance and as always he and Stanley play off of each other wonderfully. Stanley appears to be doing a little motocross on the cover whilst riding a bike of stone. Heavy rock indeed.

Line Up:

Stanley Clarke: various electric bass guitars, vocals, background vocals
Simon Phillips: drums and percussion
Charles Johnson: various guitars
Steve Bach: keyboards
