Notes: Ella,
always a stand out talent, delivers the goods in fine fettle on
this record. Her treatment of Monk's 'Round Midnite or Dizzy's Night
in Tunisia gives me goose bumps. The lady can play from within
the melody, outside the chord structure and at various points in
the timeline and never lose sight of the song itself. Always from
the heart, her voice is the compelling ingredient in any musical
mix she chooses to join. A rare talent and a wonderful human being.
We're all a little less rich since her passing. But she did leave
us with a rich tapestry composed of her work and loves. I'm not
too sure about the cover painting, I'm sure it means well, but
it gives me a little pause and it seems that there's something
not quite right here. Not mentioned very often, this record is
another that's worth seeking out.
