Notes: Blues
for Allah was recorded during the band's hiatus from touring during
the mid-seventies. The record has that classic Dead feel. Although
recorded in the studio instead of in a live setting the band sounds
like they had the wind back in their sails and were preparing to
begin another journey. Eventually the band did make it to Egypt
and play the pyramids, but the sound starts here. Produced by themselves
and the third release on the Grateful Dead Records label the record
shows how strong the songwriting and arrangements had become. A
few tunes from this album made it into the live set over the years
and became old friends. Incredilbe artwork on both covers beckons
one to come near and hear the blues from desert blowing in.
