Notes: This
record was one of my high school relevations. Our very cool art
teacher would ask us to bring in albums to pay while we created
our various projects. I had heard the song "Chameleon" on
a Maynard Furguson LP, but had never heard Herbie Hancock. I had
to stop and buy the record on my way home and spent the next few
weeks annoying the hell out of my Bob Seger/CSNY loving friends
by insisting they play this record over and over again. While I
shared their love for the aforementioned artists, this was a whole
new ballgame. My gateway to not only jazz, but funk and later African
artists such as King Sunny Ade. It still sounds fresh today and
Herbie is still going strong as ever. The cover is a shot of the
band ready to make some serious music, and have fun doing it. Built
on a firm percussive floor this house will stand the test of time.
