Notes: Uriah Heep's all around utility man just had too
much energy and material so he got his mates to back him on his first
solo effort. And what a grand album it is. Ballads, quiet moments, and
heartache are combined with powerful guitars and Ken's emotional vocals.
The version of "Rain" presented here is quieter than the Heep recording,
but I think the instrumentation and vocals allow it to tell a better
tale here. The gatefold cover has the library book in question displayed
prominently. The slightly psychedelic inner cover has a few photos of
Ken posing and playing. Always dynamic with the Heep, this time Ken goes
it alone and hits the mark square on dead center. |
