Notes: In
my humble opinion Freddie is one of the more underrated players
out there Featured here among a stellar cast of musicians he shines
and leads this merry band along the musical path he's forging.
Beginning with the 17:30 Straight Life the band plows straight
ahead and relies on each other as the song unfolds. Everyone has
his moment in the limelight, but none so strong as to overpower
the others. Side 2 keeps up the momentum through to the finish.
The recording is clean and clear and the players were in fine fettle
on November 16, 1970 when they sat down in the studio to jam a
bit. The liner notes don't say anything about overdubs or retakes,
but it sounds like this is a live-in-the-studio recording. The
cover art, both in and out, are simple, but noticeable. Blow, Freddie,
blow.
