Notes: Another
odd album from my collection. This is a very young Jimi playing
a variety of cover tunes, performing with Curtis Knight and the
Squires. There is very little of that familiar Hendrix guitar,
but just for novelties sake this album is a hoot. It was
Recorded live at George's Club 20; Hackensack, NJ. on December
26, 1965. This copy is on MFP Records and was made in Holland. The
quality is lacking, but listenable. There are no notes
as to who the players are, but it's Jimi's voice carrying the
tunes.
Here's some information provided by
Mr. Hocking:
I designed the cover art when I was living in London in 1970-75. I worked as
art director for Music For Pleasure, Hamlyn for a couple of years, then went
freelance.
I broke the budget on this album with the fading colours going in and art of
the stars, we actually did it by using an air-brush turned down so low that it
sprayed dots onto the film. Of course all this was done years before we had computer
technology, we could probably do the art using Photoshop in a couple of hours
today. The butterflies were cut out of one of Hamlyn's books and pasted together
to be photographed - today a scanner and Photoshop would do it so easily.
I am today Senior Lecturer in design at La Trobe University, Bendigo Australia,
the city were I grew up and did my early training. I'm still designing, mostly
CD, not pop, mostly repackaging old stuff, even some of the old things I did
years ago. My main interest is in writing, designing Australian social history,
I have a few books published on this subject.
Thanks for publishing my art on the web, after thirty years it makes an old aussie
designer feel pretty cool,
Cheers
Geoff Hocking
