| Artist: Milt Jackson and Wes Montgomery Title: Bags Meets Wes! Date: 1962 Label: Riverside Records 9407 Album Design: Ken Deardoff Back-Liner Photos: Steve Schapiro Recorded in New York December 18/19 of 1961
Notes: Milt Jackson, of Modern Jazz Quartet fame, is known as a tough judge of musical character. This said he praises the guitar of Wes on these sessions and of his whole body of work. Rooted in Milt's love of blues structures and backed by a crack trio of piano, bass and drums the guys work out some amazing charts here. A very nice pairing of the vibes and guitar with some fine back and forth between the soloists. This isn't a session arranged by an outside producer full of wanna be pop material, this is the real stuff. Some guys, their instruments and a whole lot of feeling. The smiles on the cover seem genuine and as authentic as the music is inside Id be willing to bet that they're authentic. A great record.
Line Up: Milt Jackson: vibes
