Notes: Michael
Kamen was an award winning multi-instrumentalist who went on to
find his place in film music Brazil, (Die Hard, Robin Hood: Prince
of Thieves, etc...). He was known for his conducting, composing
and arrangements, but his earlier works with The New York Rock
& Roll Ensemble are what stand out in my mind. Lenny Kravitz did
a very nice version of their song "Fields of Joy". This album can
be viewed as an extension of his work with the band. A solo effort
in name only Michael calls on the talents of band member Hank De
Vito and sax player Dave Sanborn to bring his original tunes to
life. A very good record especially for those already familiar
with his NYRE work. The scribbled illustration on the front cover
gives him a bit of an evil look, but the lads look friendly enough
on the back cover. A great artist who left the party too soon.
