Artist:  Yusef Lateef

Title:  Plays for Lovers

Date:  1972 (Re-Issue)

Label Prestige Records   PRT-7447

Notes:  Taken from a few previously issued records and remastered for stereo this is a collection of songs for lovers and about love. The versatile Lateef jumps from instrument to instrument and uses different backing groups as the album plays on. And as the liner notes by Ira Gitler (March 1966) mention, if you don't do so well using this record with the intention of seducing a young thing with its rhythms and moods you can at least enjoy the music as there is so much to dig. Moody, mellow, marvelous. A fine cover shot and informative liner notes, can't as for more.

Line Up:

Yusef Lateef: tenor sax, oboe, flute
Lonnie Hillyer: trumpet
Wilbur Harden: fluegelhorn
Hugh Lawson, Barry Harris: piano
Herman Wright, Ernie Farrow: bass
Frank Gant, Lex Humphries, Oliver Jackson, Elvin Jones: drums
