The Album Cover Art Gallery

Artist:  Herbie Man

Title:  At the Village Gate

Date:  1961

Label:  Atlantic Records   1380

Cover Painting:  Abidine

Cover Design:  Martin Norman

Notes:  The jazzmann with the flute gets rolling here with a three song outing. Extended jamming only enhances these great songs. This version of Summertime deserves a place in any collection. And the full second side consist of It's Ain't Necessarily So stretched out and simmered. The cover art touches the essence of the music with the fluid figures projecting motion. Another fine flea market find.

Line Up:

Herbie Mann: flute
Ray Mantilla: percussion, conga
Hagood Hardy: vibraphone
Ahmed Abdul-Malik: bass
Chief Bey: percussion, drums
Rudy Collins: drums
Ben Tucker: bass
