Artist:  Gerry Mulligan

Title:  Gerry Mulligan Meets Stan Getz

Date:  1957

Label:  Verve Records   MG VS - 68249

Art Director:  John D'Emilio

Photography:  Phil Stern

Notes:  A nice meeting of the minds on this one. The tight rhythm section propelled along by Ray Brown's bass compliments the soloists perfectly. As a bit of a surprise the sax men trade instruments so that on side one you get Stan on baritone and Gerry on tenor. Side two has the instruments back to their usual owners and the music continues to please. Each solo is built upon the backing groove and while it calls for you're attention it never overwhelms or detracts from the melody. The front cover photo in its two-tone shading is of a couple of guys at work. Nothing more, nothing less. And damn how they love their work…

Line Up:

Gerry Mulligan: baritone and tenor saxophone
Stan Getz: tenor and baritone saxophone
Lou Levy: piano
Stan Levey: drums
Ray Brown: bass
