Notes:  Here's some good ol' Mississippi delta blues brought to you on a slab of British vinyl. Charlie can play soft and sweet enough to make you tear up and sniff a bit and then the next thing you know he's unleashed the wind of an approaching storm and makes those little hairs on the back of your ears stand up. I think the back cover photo sums it up pretty well. Just close your eyes and listen to the man tell his story; be it with words or the wordless emotion drawn from a simple mouth harp. Play on Charlie...

Here's some information provided by Steve York:

Well here goes. The album was recorded in a studio in an old church in London that is usually only used for acoustic music. Stefan Grosman hired myself, Sammy Mitchell (the best slide guitarist in the UK at the time) and Jeff Rich on drums. We had been playing around the London pubs as a blues/rock trio but we were all experienced studio players.
Stefan booked 3 days to do the basic tracks. All the tracks are first takes. We were done in 1 1/2 days and used the remaining time to lay tracks for Sammy Mitchell's album "The Art of Bottleneck Guitar." There was no rehearsal for Charlie's album. On the first song the drummer asked "What feel do you want?" Charlie replied "Blues Feel". Then the drummer asked "What's the ending?" Charlie said "I put my finger up and we end". We didn't bother to ask for direction after that. Charlie just played a few bars of each tune on the harp and we listened and played.
Charlie also hung around and played on Sammy's album. I also play some blues harp and I was able to appreciate just what a great player Charlie is. I actually ordered the booklet that goes with the album a few years ago but they cashed my cheque and it never arrived.
Charlie also stopped by my house during the sessions and went through my blues record collection identifying many musician miscredits on some albums. Stefan Grossman told me Charlie called him later from the US and told him that he "had fun recording in England - it was just like playing in someone's garage".
I've run into Charlie in the US and he remembers his time in London clearly.(He was going through some personal problems back then). He is a very warm person and a wonderful player.
Thanks for your interest of this album. I enjoyed working on it. Steve York.
