Notes: On
July 7, 1957 the Oscar Peterson trio turned in a fine set for
the folks at the Newport Jazz Festival. The instruments seemed
to play themselves and drag the players along with them. Fluid
solos danced on top of the rhythm and could amaze, amuse and
generally take your breath away at times. So to follow this up
Oscar is joined on stage by a new trio of players and continues
on with the show. New soloists, new moods and new material. The
smooth piano texture is played against the rougher sounding sax
and the result is a joy to hear. The trumpet roars along, propelled
by the rolling gait of the drums. Another fresh and tasty set
and the crowd is left with the glow of having seen musicians
truly enjoying themselves. This Japanese import has a nice live
shot on the front cover and individual pictures and brief biographies
of the players on the back. Well done men…
