Notes: There
was an amazing amount of talent in this band and this record is
full of examples. Along with originals by all of the band members
we get a few Mingus pieces and some traditional tunes as well.
This 2 LP set with one LP in the studio and the other a live recording
from the Royal Festival Hall in London in June of 1968. Arguably
the band were at their best in both settings and the production
by Shel Talmy does them justice. A melding of folk, jazz and traditional
styles combine for a heady mix. The cover gives us a short synopsis
of each of the songs and a small visual representation of each
on the back cover. The inner gatefold has a portrait and a quote
from each band member. Well worth seeking out for future listening.
