Notes: "Here
are a dozen electronic pop tunes. They are the electrifying good-time
music of the coming age, the switched-on dance music that will
soon be it." And so begins the liner notes from this weird
and wonderful hunk of vinyl from the past. And truer words were
never spoken. A quick listen to "Swan's Splashdown" and
you can here the groove lifted directly for the hit Smashmouth
tune "Walkin' on the Sun". Quite surprised I was in my
ale enhanced condition to hear a familiar riff coming from the
well worn surface of this disc one lazy afternoon. The pair of
Kingsley and Perrey brought together advanced recording techniques
and a taste for the unusual to create something odd and strangely
captivating. And remember, this was before the time of computer
editing and manipulation. It took 275 hours, miles of tape and
a pair of scissors to put it all together. The tunes run from amusing
to annoying, but all worth a listen or two. Even if only to find
a new sample to build a song upon. The cover notes are extensive
and there's a great picture of the pair of mad engineers in front
of a wall of tape snippets, presumably from the "Way Out" sessions
themselves. A necessity for those hangin' with the space age set.
