| Notes: The Stranglers were there at the beginning of the British punk scene and they're still out there making great music. Hugh has gone off to a solo career, but the rest of the band is intact with a few additions. This offering is an early album full of favorites like "Duchess", topical pieces such as "Nuclear Device" and "Genetix" and their stateside commentary "Dead Loss Angeles". The cover is a 3D photo of the Raven (which actually scanned very well to my surprise) backed with a nice photo of the lads on the Longships. The inner sleeve contains the lyrics as well as photos and illustrations. Never ones to beat a sound to death, the Stranglers shift musical styles with an ease not found in many rock ensembles. The driving guitars and bass are backed by steady drumming and the wonderfully fluid keyboards of Dave Greenfield. | |
