Notes:  As if Santana hadn't sent notice to the musical world with their first record, this one came along and grabbed it by the scruff of the neck and gave it a good shake. The band, with Carlos blazing the trail, made songs by Peter Green (Fleetwood Mac) and Tito Puente and made them their own signature tunes. And the rest of the record, both sides, are stunning as well. Penned by Carlos, Gregg Rolle and Chepito Areas the songs had both the relaxed spirit of the ancients as well as the fire of the gods when called for. The fantastic (in the true sense of the word) cover art includes a self portrait of the artist (in the yellow hat) mixed inot the fray. The picture was created independent of the music, but there will forever seem like one and the same from here on out. If you only buy one Santana record, make it this one.
