| Artist: Nina Simone Title: Little Girl Blue (Jazz as Played in an Exclusive Side Street Club) Date: 1957 Label: Bethlehem Records BCP-6028
Notes: Coming from a musical family Nina began piano at the age of four. By the age of seventeen she was using the southern blues as a seasoning for her jazz piano playing. Feeling the true magic of the music she went on to use her voice along with her piano to tell her stories. This record finds that she is an able composer (Cental Park Blues) as well as a formidable arranger, arranging all the songs presented here. Her smoky voice gives a nod to Sarah, but truly belongs to Nina. The Central Park setting of the cover photo captures Nina in a relaxed, but attentive pose. More people should hear this record.
