Artist:  Yma Sumac

Title:  Voice of the Xtabay

Date:  1950

Label:  Capitol Records   W684

Notes:  This hunk of vinyl contains the rerelease of two of Ms. Sumac prior records. Side 1 was conducted by Les Baxter of lounge and exotica fame. Her history tells us that she was born in the Andes and is of royal lineage. She grew up singing to the surrounding hills and animals and soon her legend for vocal prowess grew far and wide. I'm not sure how many octaves her range covers, but it seems limitless. A times you find yourself wondering what that instrument is only to realize that it's her voice. The cover in all it's Puruvean trappings presents us with the vocal deity of the mountains in all her glory. Come, worship at the temple of Yma...

Side 1 Conducted By:  Les Baxter

Side 2 Conducted By:  Moises Vivanco
