Notes: According to the liner notes, this is the ninth album produced by the boys and their instrumentals have climbed into the Top 5 across this nation of ours. Anyone familiar with any surf music at all should be able to pick out the opening strains of "Telstar" in a handful of notes. And "Tequila" as well; though Pee Wee may take some of the credit for that. While the cover art isn't flashy by any means, it still has that 60's graphic charm about it. I love the guitars on the back cover. The following information was provided by William Sargent (who is currently putting together a book on Leon Russell): The "Play Telstar" LP was recorded in 1962, released Nov.62, and included Leon Russell, as did about half of everything recorded in LA those days. |
