The Album Cover Art Gallery

Artist:  The Ventures

Title:  Colorful Ventures

Date:  1961

Label:  Liberty Records   LBY 1007

Notes:  A Japanese pressing here with only the song titles in English among the liner notes. Each track, with the strange exception of the lead off song Walk Don't Run, contain a color in the title. And to make it an even better fit the record is pressed on dark red translucent vinyl. The Ventures were in good form during these sessions and the album has some of their better picking and strumming. The cover photo is interesting for the lack of Mosrite guitars and the appearance of Fender instruments in their place. Another great flea market discovery. Kinda makes it all worthwhile when something like this turns up in the 25 cent bin.

Line Up:

Bob Bogle:  Lead/Bass Guitar
Nokie Edwards:   Lead/Bass Guitar
Don Wilson:   Rhythm Guitar
Howie Johnson:  Drums

And a few notes sent in by Gaetan:

During much of 1961 and 1962, the Ventures promoted themselves as primarily a two-piece group, consisting of Bob and Don. While Nokie and Howie were available for recording sessions, they had other pursuits, and Bob and Don used other musicians when on tour! Hard-core Ventures' fans will know that two versions of 'Blue Moon' were recorded; one in mono and the other in stereo, and were slightly
different in arrangement!
