| Artist: Johnny Winter Title: Second Winter Date: 1969 Label: Columbia Records KCS 9947 Album Design: Tony Lane Photographs: Richard Avedon Spiritual Producer: Steve Paul
Notes: An odd one here folks. This is a three sided double album. Side four
is smooth. According to the liner notes the guys wanted to make sure that this album was
recorded as loud as possible. To fit all of the tracks onto two sides would have entailed
drastically cutting down the recorded volume. And a full jumble of originals, covers and
classics were pressed to disc for this one. The brothers Winter and friends jump, shout
and boogie with blues based roots on display. The cover photos by the respected Avedon
lens are a nice touch. Another interesting point is that the bassist, Tommy
Shannon, is known primarily for being in Stevie Ray Vaughn's band but not
this!
Line Up: Johnny Winter: vocals, guitar, mandolin Edgar Winter: piano, organ, harpsichord, alto sax "Uncle" John Turner: percussion Tommy Shannon: bass
